Earth Day, 2021

The earth painted on a rock, along with a heart, as a reminder it's Earth Day

This gem was left as a reminder by the mailboxes today by the pond. I took it as a clear sign to give some serious thought as to what we can do to help protect our earth. And, given that our company is due to launch its website this weekend, believe me, it's been weighing heavily on my mind.

I remember how quickly our planet started to heal when so many of us were home due to COVID. And while we're not out of the woods yet with this virus, many have returned to work with the hope of blotting this blight from our memory. But let's take the wonderful lessons learned and apply them to our current "new normal" life.

We've been giving a lot of thought as to what we want this business to look like. First we're using up our stashes of stones and metals and fibres so they don't go wasted. And then, where possible, we're choosing to replace them with recycled metals, such as argentium (more on that in a later post) and stones that are ethically sourced.

For packaging we're looking into recycled or biodegradable mailers and cardstock made from recycled t-shirts.

We're choosing to use cork for many of our bags. It's a renewable resource and is easier on the environment in many ways.

We'd like to dig deeper into the processing and supply chain of our goods and see if we can lessen the carbon footprint as well. For example, we'll ship out packages only a couple of times a week instead of going to the post office every day. We'll keep packaging to a minimum and order as often as we can in bulk from one supplier rather than a little bit from a lot of suppliers.

I know there is so much more we'd like to do, and with time, we'll get better at it. We have to in order to help save our world for future generations.

What is one thing that you can do that will help us heal the world? Let us know in the comments below. It's certainly food for thought on this Earth Day in 2021.

Have a fantabulous day!

Smiles, Brenda
