I have to do the combination self-derision-giggle and eye-roll-at-myself thing as I begin writing. The title came to me easily, but I struggled with whether or not to capitalize the "t" in the second "the". Do you care? One is grammatically correct, the other looks better as a title. In the scheme of life, does it really matter? It makes the lowly "the" stand out as the only word in the title not capitalized. With it standing out, does it suddenly become the most important word in the title? These are just some of the nonsensical questions that race through my mind in a few nanoseconds.
As an example, it's perhaps somewhat trivial, but how many times a day do you recognize that the more you learn, the less you know?
Today, for example, I went to a meeting about marketing. In the room were both seasoned and new entrepreneurs. (I fall into both categories, having had a mid-life hiatus.) So much of what was said I knew and understood and yet every time I opened my mouth I made rookie mistakes, like using jargon speech (blockchain) so that people's eyes glazed over as they thought something like, "What's she talkin' about?" or "Ugh. That's simply too complicated to get my head around. Next." Later on in the conversation I gave the example of someone buying a ring and me being able to tell them about the person who mined the stone. THAT landed!
People crave connection....whether to ideas, objects or other living beings. Yet they need to be relevant to our lives in order to do so. We connect with stories. Most of us grew up with them and the really good ones resonated with us because we could see some aspect of ourselves within them. I think that's one of the reasons why a whole new slew of fairy tales have been created over the past few years. Society has changed BIG time since Brothers Grimm were around!
So, here's the thing. If I ever talk about something and you don't understand me, shoot me off an email. No question is too crazy and I'll do my very best to be sure you understand what it is I was trying to say. Connection often happens through dialogue and getting to know each other. The more I know you, the more I'll know what interests you. Send in your requests! :) I'll be all over that!
